Spring 27 Runway

Forty-five years after Carolina Herrera first showed in New York, Spring 27 returns to the city where it all began. At Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater, Creative Director Wes Gordon presents a celebration of all things Herrera, reimagining the confidence, elegance and unmistakable chic of the women who shaped the House from the beginning for a new generation.

The Collection

The Herrera woman moves through New York with characteristic ease: walking down Park Avenue in full bloom, hailing a yellow taxi, equally at home uptown and downtown. Her wardrobe reflects the rhythm of the city itself, with elongated jackets and sweeping A-line skirts giving the collection a defined elegance, while chiffon, organza, metallic lace and gazar bring lightness and movement.

Familiar House codes return for Spring 27 through painterly florals and the signature polka dot, while two distinct color stories create the rhythm of the season. Black, white, Herrera Red and Taxi Cab Yellow provide a bold graphic foundation, while softer shades offer a gentler counterpoint. Running throughout, Taxi Cab Yellow links the House’s fragrance heritage with an unmistakable symbol of New York.

Accessories embrace the same sense of character and wit. Sculptural handbags are covered in cascades of leather flowers, while the signature Mimi Bag appears in lustrous satin, with select styles adorned with tiny golden frogs. Oversized pearls, statement tassels and playful jewelry motifs bring further individuality to the collection.

Special Collaborations

For Spring 27, Carolina Herrera partners with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts to present Andy Warhol’s portrait of Mrs. Herrera. Licensed for the first time, the image appears on select bespoke pieces, including an embroidered mini dress and the Jacqueline bag. The portrait recalls the friendship between Warhol and Mrs. Herrera and the creative world they shared in New York City. After Warhol photographed Mrs. Herrera in a series of Polaroids, she traded a Van Cleef & Arpels bag, a gift from her husband, for the portrait they inspired. The collaboration also supports The Andy Warhol Foundation’s ongoing work to advance the visual arts

Few publications are as closely associated with New York as The New Yorker. In this collaboration, an embroidered dress recreates the cover of the issue that appeared on newsstands on April 27, 1981, the day of Carolina Herrera’s first fashion show at The Metropolitan Club. Originally illustrated by Lonni Sue Johnson, its Manhattan skyline is rendered in hand embroidery by the Herrera atelier transforming an image from the city’s past into an expression of the Herrera atelier today.

45 years of Herrera

It began in New York in 1981, when Carolina Herrera presented her first collection at the Metropolitan Club, encouraged by Diana Vreeland. Today, Creative Director Wes Gordon carries that legacy forward with the Spring 27 collection, marking 45 years of the House.
