Embroidery that Reflects Emotions

Embroidery artist María de los Ángeles Licona San Juan, a Ñähñu Master from El Nanthe in Tenango de Doria, Hidalgo, has created vibrantly embroidered pieces for ten cotton garments, including shirts, dresses, and pants. “The fabric is my notebook, and the needle is my pencil,” she explains. Her embroidery reflects her emotions: “When I’m happy, I use bright colors. When I’m sad, I use darker ones,” she says.

Contemporary Jewelry with a Historical Technique

In San Pablo del Monte (Tlaxcala), talavera—delicate white and blue glazed pottery—is considered almost like a religion. “Here, talavera is like a relic that people keep or use as decoration on special occasions. I wanted to carry it with me every day,” says Jacqueline España, a chemical engineer who has created her own jewelry brand, where she takes talavera to a new dimension while still supporting her community. “As a talavera artisan, I am committed to preserving the heritage passed down to me, protecting its essence, and promoting innovation,” she adds. Her hand-painted talavera ceramic adornments now embellish prêt-à-porter pieces and earrings in the collection.

The Art of Collaboration

Araceli Nibra Matadamas lives and works in Oaxaca de Juárez, where she collaborates with trusted artisans to reinterpret traditional pieces from a contemporary perspective. Her specialty is jewelry made from jícaras, which she embellishes with painting, embroidery, and macramé. “Nature is my inspiration, with colors that reflect the seasons, plants, flowers, and even the sky at sunset,” she explains. For the collection, Nibra and her team have created a series of hand-painted jewelry pieces that reimagine her famous jícaras using various natural materials.

A Landscape of Thread

At the foot of the legendary La Malinche volcano, in the municipality of San Pablo del Monte, Tlaxcala, Virginia Verónica Arce Arce creates stunning embroidery inspired by the nature around her. Her father taught her to embroider at the age of 15, and since then, she has dedicated herself to preserving this craft, which is a vital part of her community’s identity. For the Resort 2025 collection, her lace embroidery takes center stage in three dresses.
