Emmy Rossum Weds in Custom Herrera

Emmy Rossum knows how to make an entrance.

And while she’s undoubtedly accustomed to making statements on the red carpet, Rossum took things to another level for her May New York City wedding to “Mr. Robot” creator, Sam Esmail. Floating down the Central Synagogue aisle in an embroidered, all-white-off-the-shoulder Carolina Herrera gown with a dramatic train, Rossum effortlessly embodied Carolina Herrera’s elegant aesthetic.

“As soon as I got engaged, I immediately knew that I wanted Mrs. Herrera to make my wedding dress,” she told Vogue.com. “I went in, and Mrs. Herrera and I talked about silhouettes she’d done for bridal and silhouettes I’d worn before. I knew I’d be getting married at the temple, which is quite grand, and that the reception would be at the Guggenheim, so we knew that it needed to be a dress that could hold up to that. And it was Mrs. Herrera’s idea to make it quite modern and fresh, and kind of use the shape of the Guggenheim on the bodice.”

“I took inspiration from an evening gown that she’d worn some time ago that she’d loved – she wanted more or less something in the same silhouette,” says Carolina. “We made that dress as a muslin first, and we actually ended up changing it a lot and really simplifying it. She’s such a joy to work with. She knows exactly what is chic and classic, and I trust her implicitly. The shape and the overlays on the bodice feel really modern to me at the same time as the scale and overall silhouette feels traditional.”

The final design featured an open neckline and embroidered sleeves to highlight Rossum’s shoulders, 212 buttons delicately fastened down the back, and an overlaid bodice for a touch of modernity. Rossum accessorized her traditional, yet fresh bridal look with Paul Andrew pumps, a Fred Leighton diamond crescent moon hairpiece and a Roger Vivier bag.
